Painting cabinets is always and upgrade. The higher end the cabinet to start with the more beautiful the finished product. Even older cabinets are often made with a much more solid integrity than what can be purchased today.

This is why often door replacement is an amazing option to create the most contemporary effect. For decades Oak cabinets were the most common cabinets contractors put in the majority of homes. Oak has a distinctive look with a wide open grain that adds a lot of texture. These cabinets are accompanied by solid wood doors that stand the test of time.

Unfortunately sometimes the style of the paneling (such as the arch or “key hole” design on top) and the exterior hinges, the 3 inch long handles and the overlay of the doors (this is how much of the door actually covers the cabinet frame) can date the doors somewhat even after painting. This is where we really shine!

UPDATING THE OLD WITH THE NEW

There is a great handling that we offer for this that will truly update the cabinets to current design standards.

We build custom shaker doors that will cover a larger portion of the cabinet face than the traditional doors. These doors are made locally with Maple (which is harder and more durable than poplar) frames and a MDF paint grade center.

They are custom designed to give a more modern effect to the cabinets.

Older cabinets had smaller doors and covered far less of the face frame. One area that this is notable is the amount of space you see between the cabinet doors.

“Just order bigger doors” is not the handling for this. There is a formula to make the doors cover more of the face frame in a consistent even manner and the correct size of hinges has every thing to do with this. We are proud to offer this option and we are not aware of anyone else in our area that does this.

All new custom doors come with hidden hinges that are soft close, creating less wear and tear on your new finish.

RECONFIGURING

This is a great time to reconfigure cabinets, to remove the cabinet above the stove that the microwave is attached to and put in a hood instead. This is the time to make changes that once the painting is complete will look like they were designed to be there from the beginning.

Have you always wanted a trash pull out on your island? A microwave drawer instead of over the stove. How about crown molding on top, or larger crown than was offered 25 years ago.
